Drainfield
Our drainfield installation is currently underway. The crew of 3 from McKim's construction came out last week to drop off their Backhoe and supplies. They started digging away this week. I'm sure they aren't happy having to deal with all the trees in their way. To complicate things, we have a pair of red-tail hawks that have decided to nest 75 feet up in a Poplar tree right between our house and the drainfield. We are very excited about the hawks nesting and hope the disturbance doesn't scare them away. If they don't abandon the nest, we might be setting up a Hawk-cam!
The crew laying out the pipes in the trenches for the drainfield. There are four trench lines total and they join as one at the distribution box and meander over towards the house to the big blue tanks.
Here's the distribution box for the system.
This is the force main line that leads from the blue tanks (below) to the drainfield. A pump is located in the tanks to help move things along uphill.
His and her tanks waiting to be buried in the ground. Each tank holds 1250 gallons.
Just like that, the tanks were buried. We are hoping to get everything inspected and backfilled before the next rain. We'll be planting grass seed in no time.
