Workshop

We haven't completely finished our house yet and Todd is on to building again. We are building a workshop that will eventually be turned into a guesthouse. We had a rectangle concrete slab poured back in April but just recently got motivated to build the shop. It's a very simple design and we are pretty just making it up as we go. We had toyed with cutting our own timber frame but eventually decided to go with a stick built design. Todd and his dad have been busy at work on the weekends. We have been using our 82' Westie to house the tools for the job, along with the air compressor and generator. I'm glad it's getting used for something! Our poor "old gent" hasn't run in years and needs a garage to rest in. Maybe a garage will be next on our list? We have opening for the doors but will cut the windows out later. I didn't get shots of the roof trusses going up but here's the roof on. Here's Todd rolling on the tar paper in preparation for the roofers. We decided to go with another red metal roof. It's an investment up front but will be worth it down the road. Cedar enjoys going to the job site and seeing her dadda and pop-pop, especially when the bobcat is there! She had just gotten this new yellow slicker and I couldn't resist taking photo after photo in the pretty sunlight. I just noticed the apple in her arm. She loves to walk around and eat apples!

Halloween.....a little late

Cedar had a fun and very busy Halloween. She started the day with the fox hunters trotting through our property. She loves horses and would excitingly say, "hoose" and point as they went by. Willow was on the deck too and she was equally excited. The fox hunters bring a pack of annoying hounds with them too and they run willy-nilly all over the place in the woods.
Shortly after the horses left we carved pumpkins. Cedar wanted nothing to do with the pumpkin goo and kept her distance with the metal spoon. We finished the day with the annual Leesburg Halloween parade. Cedar was a monkey this year. I had hoped to be more creative with the costume but ended up buying one. We always call Cedar a monkey so the costume was perfect for her and nice and cozy. She handled the excitement of the parade pretty well and had fun with her cousins. She got pretty sticky with her lollipop but really enjoyed it. She isn't a fan of looking at the camera but occasionally I will get a squinty "cheese" shot, like this one: I love this shot…too bad it's blurry. I'm posting it anyway. Happy belated Halloween!

Fall fun

We've had a fun and very beautiful fall in VA. Earlier in October we went to Pumpkinville, which is right down the road. Cedar met her friend Landon there. She was obsessed with the animals and had no fear. She walked right up to the deer to pet them. She's been watching them run through our woods and squealed in delight to see them up close. Can't you just feel the excitement...She fed the goats and chased the chickens. Landon was not a fan of the animals so we moved on to the moon bounce. Cedar climbed right in but things got a bit rough when the big kids came in. A nice little girl kindly escorted her to the exit. She enjoyed the big slide and a hayrideAnd who doesn't want to drive a big black bus that's full of hay?There were buses everywhere…We finished off the day by picking out a pumpkin and then headed off for pizza.
