Green Hill Woodworks
It's official, we are now embarking on a business venture with Logan and Kelly. Green Hill Woodworks will be our name and sawmilling is our game! The dairy farm that Logan and I grew up on was named Green Hill Farm. It seems fitting and we like the sounds of it. We took delivery of our brand new LT40 Woodmizer yesterday. Marty, an authorized dealer for Woodmizer in Pennsylvania, delivered the mill in the morning. We spent about 4 or 5 hours standing in the blazin' hot field, training and going over all the details of the complicated machine. Marty is an expert when it comes to Woodmizers. It was a bit scary when he drove away, leaving us alone with the big orange machine! Here are a handful of photos taken during the training. Marty going over the basics. We started out with a white oak practice log, cutting the boards 1" thick for our siding, but scaled back to 3/4" thick after realizing it was too much. The boards will probably dry back an 1/8" so we had to keep that in mind. Learning the accuset controls...Throughout the day we had a few curious visitors stop by. Here's Uncle Sam and Aunt Shirley. Shirley would probably not approve of us putting this photo on here!
More sawmilling practice will come this weekend. In the meantime we found a new home for the Woodmizer over at the farm. We tidied up the back side of the old stone barn and very carefully backed the Woodmizer in. Come on, wouldn't you love to have these guys sawmilling boards for you! :)
