Bird Nerds

The other day Todd and Willy saw one of the hawks swoop down and grab a garter snake and fly back up to this perch. They were outside hanging siding when they heard a wrestling sound in the leaves. I ran outside with my camera but it was too late, he already devoured it.The hawks are still occupying the nest by our house and Todd is itchin' to climb one of the adjacent trees for a better look. They are pretty territorial so I'm not sure how well that would go. We've really enjoyed bird watching this year. Last weekend we had a flock of brightly colored goldfinches invade our feeders. Aren't they pretty?Wanna see them closer?

They're back!

The red-tailed hawk pair is back in action again this year. It's so exciting! The Mr. & Mrs. have been busy this past week rebuilding the same nest from last year, high up in a poplar tree next to our house. And once again we've become slightly obsessed with watching them. We run from window to window with the zoom lens hoping to get the perfect shot. We'd love to see this.
