Weekend work

We worked hard on Friday night and finished putting up the exterior wall insulation. Whew, it's a good feeling to have that done! On Saturday morning we fueled up on coffee, hopped into the truckasaurus and headed to TW Perry to pick up concrete and lumber to build a low decking walkway and a side deck. We've had four dirty, unstable palettes acting as the path out of our house and we were happy to finally toss them aside. The side deck will come in handy when we are putting up the siding. Well, that is if we ever get to the siding! We piled up the truckasaurus with concrete, rented a mixer and were on our way. The truck was unphased by the 2400 lbs of concrete – that's 30 Willows in the back of the pick-um up truck!

We then picked up the bobcat from the farm and got to work digging the holes. We used the auger bit first, then dug out to 24" for county code. The post hole digger below, which looks more like a Mars Rover photo, is pretty ancient. You can't find a better tool for getting dirt out of a hole though! Then it was time to turn on the mixer and pour the concrete. On Sunday, after the concrete set, we assembled everything and screwed down all the decking boards.Once we finished the low decking, we stood back and realized that we now have a dock in the woods. Eventually we'll fill in the sides with landscaping but right now it seems so high off the ground. For the time being we might tie our canoe to it and pretend that we have a house on a lake. Below is the side deck in progress. We should finish it up tomorrow night, minus the railing. Willow approves…
