The Devil Came on Horseback

Last Friday night we went to the Tally Ho to see The Devil Came on Horseback, a documentary film about our good friend Brian Steidle. Back in 2004, Brian served in Darfur as an unarmed peace monitor with the African Union. During his 6 month stay he witnessed and documented the ongoing genocide - something he was unprepared to see. Since his return, Brian has brought his story and his powerful, yet deeply disturbing photographs to the attention of the rest of the world. He has been busy traveling, lecturing, conducting interviews and has also written a memoir (same title as movie) with his sister Gretchen to bring awareness. Brian was in town on Friday for the film, along with Gretchen and his parents. It was great to see all of them and to catch up afterwards. You can help support Brian and Gretchen's efforts in a multitude of ways. Check out this website to see where the film is showing near you or visit Global Grassroots (founded by Gretchen) to read more.Brian, Gretchen and Virgina Congressman Frank Wolf answering questions after the film.
