Walking in the woods

Last Friday we took Cedar for a hike at Whiteoak Canyon Falls in the Shenandoah National Park. Well, we thought we were going to the falls but ended up taking another trail that led us somewhere different. I guess we should have looked at the trailhead map in the parking lot first, but oh well. We'd been there before but the hike was much steeper than we remembered. We decided to keep going instead of turn around because Todd and I are both stubborn it was a beautiful day. We continued up the steep trail until we heard kids voices, then we knew we were close to something good. The trail led us right to an awesome natural rock slide that cascaded down beautiful bouldering rocks and emptied into a pool of water. Cedar did great in the backpack but was ready to get out and explore when she saw the water. We had the place to ourselves when we first got there so she went o'naturale, well minus her pink chucks. Cedar and I watched as Todd went down the slide. I wasn't brave enough. And splash! We finished our lunch and headed back down the trail. When we got back to the parking lot we looked at the map and saw that we took the 'Cedar Run Trail'. So I guess it was meant to be! We'll definitely be taking Cedar back then when she's older so she can go down the slide herself.
