Two good things about the town of Leesburg…

The annual Halloween parade and free mulch! Last weekend we shirked off all responsible duties and decided to get our hands in the dirt. We went to the free mulch pile in Leesburg and filled the truckasaurus up with two loads of steamy mulch to spread underneath our deck and around our evergreens. Score! We spread mulch for a couple hours before heading to Abernathy & Spencer Nursery in Lincoln. I took my camera since it was so beautiful out and got a little trigger happy. I got my first job at this nursery back when it was named Solar Plants and run by a shady guy named Steve. We spent about an hour walking around, snapping photos of tree bark and pretty berries, trying to decide what we should spend our gift certificate on (thanks Frannie). We were searching for a tree or shrub to plant in our center island, the same space that is dominated by a large black walnut tree. For those unfamiliar with black walnuts, they excrete a very toxic chemical through their root systems that kills most competing tree species. So after checking with the owner David a couple times, we finally decided on a "blood good" maple, which we have now named "our frannie tree." We also bought 100+ daffodil and tulip bulbs that kept us busy Sunday morning. Oh, by the way we moved out again yesterday. We aren't too happy about it but feel like we have to give Athey another go at the floors. We tried, but just couldn't settle for the orange peel look. So we packed a duffel bag for the week, one for us and one for the pup, and moved back in with my folks. We are praying to the floor Gods that this will be the last time. We try not to talk about it because we just get too worked up, but we can't imagine what we'll do if they run into another problem. Please, please let the 4th time be the charm!
