Firring strips & painting chics

Last weekend we started working on one of our next big projects, the siding. We plan on covering the lovely white tyvec "home wrap" with cedar board & batten. So, we started the day by hanging firring strips on the west/deck side of the house. The strips are hung horizontally every 16" and it's critical that they line up on the interior studs. Speaking of studs, check out that guy on the ladder! I don't think I've ever seen him wear that green shirt! We bought one test sheet of cedar to test out stain colors and really haven't found a stain we like yet. So, on to something different. We've decided to test out a few "Cabot semi-solid" stains on the next go-round. Hope we have better luck there.Later in the day, after getting roasted on the deck, we moved inside to hang extension jambs and continued with the never ending electrical. On Sunday Todd and Willy began setting up the woodworking shop in the basement. They put together the joiner and dust collection system and even ventured out to Home Depot on a busy Sunday afternoon for shop lights. Mom and I spent most of the rainy Sunday priming windows. We're almost finished with the first floor, just a few more windows in the master bedroom. Check out "go-go-gadget" Linda…
