Flipping through my parents old photo albums recently, I stumbled upon photos from when they were building their house in 1976. We share the same woods and although they are a bit dated, the process looks awfully familiar! I thought I'd share some of the photos here. ~Erin Here's my dad clearing the land with the help of this John Deere. He's even sportin' the John Deere hat!Bill (closer) and dad staking out the lines where the house will go. Bill, along with one helper named Richard, built the entire house. It took them 8 months to finish. The freshly poured footers. In the distance is a VW "beast." My dad was in the Army and had the 71' VW 411 shipped back from Germany. Apparently my mom custom-made curtains for it and they went on many camping adventures. There's my mom. I think Todd's weight bench is now parked where she is standing. The stud walls going upMy mom and I will be doing this soon.Dad did all the stone work and it took him 4 years on and off outside of dairy farming. He would do a batch when he came home for breakfast and one batch would be enough to set 7 to 8 stones. All of the stones were collected from the land. I've been digging through the same abandoned walls recently. One of my next projects will be to put a stone wall up behind our wood stove for the mantel to rest on. Here we are back in the day. A future stone mason in training!
